DAS FÄHNLEIN DER SIEBEN AUFRECHTEN by Simon Aeby

2001 | Movie drama

At the wish of her father, Hermine (Hermione) the young daughter of the rich master carpenter Frymann ought to marry a rich colleague from Zurich in 1849.

The film depicts incidents one year after the founding of the modern Swiss Confederation State. “Law & Order“, a companionship of Zurich-native artisans and restaurateurs decide to celebrate their anniversary, for the first time under its own flag.

The two spokesmen of the association, Frymann and the poor tailor Hediger get in serious trouble due to this intention: no one knows how to greet the thousand assembly members suitably. At the last minute Karl, Hediger’s youngest son, saves them with a cheerful speech that wins the heart of the crowd in no time.

What had inspired Karl, was his love to Hermine, the only daughter of Frymann. The two want to get married, but their fathers object, Frymann because of his business interests and Hediger out of pride.
